V60 Pour Over Guide for Trinity Coffee Roasters

How to brew specialty coffee at home with a Hario V60

Who this is for

Home brewers in Los Angeles who want a clean, sweet cup from light roast Trinity Coffee beans. Beginner friendly. Precise enough for enthusiasts.

Why V60 for light roasts

V60 highlights clarity and aromatics in single origin, small-batch, third-wave coffees. LA’s coffee culture values craft and technique, and pour over is trending in 2025.

Gear you need and why

  • Hario V60 02 dripper + paper filter
Cone shape and single large outlet promote even extraction and a clean finish.

  • Gooseneck kettle
Controls flow rate for consistent agitation and contact time.

  • Burr grinder
Medium-coarse grind with uniform particles reduces fines and bitterness.

  • Accurate coffee scale with timer
Dial in the 1:16 ratio and time your pours for repeatability.

  • Fresh Trinity Coffee light roast
Roasted to order, ideal for high clarity and sweetness in pour over.

  • Filtered water
Target 195–205 °F. Start near 203 °F for light roasts.

  • Optional: Thermometer, stir stick or spoon, carafe.

Brew ratio and grind

  • Dose: 20 g coffee

  • Water: 320 g water

  • Ratio: 1:16

  • Grind: Medium-coarse (about table salt to kosher salt range)

This is a balanced starting point for light roasts. Adjust grind first, then water temperature, to fine-tune taste.

Trinity V60 Immersion-Style Recipe

Prep

  1. Heat water to ~203 °F.

  2. Rinse the filter to remove paper taste and preheat the dripper and carafe. Discard rinse water.

  3. Add 20 g ground coffee. Tap to level.

Step 1. Bloom
Start timer. Pour 50–60 g to fully wet the bed. Gently swirl to break dry pockets. Let it bloom for 40–45 seconds to release CO₂ and prime extraction.

Step 2. Immersion fill
At 0:45, pour steadily to ~300 g total, aiming for a flat bed. Light agitation helps. Then stop pouring and steep until 1:45. This short immersion boosts sweetness and body without muddiness.

Step 3. Tilt + finish
At 1:45, tilt the dripper slightly or give a gentle swirl to re-level the bed and encourage an even drawdown. Finish the pour to 320 g by 2:00. Let it drain completely. Target total brew time 2:45–3:15. If it runs much faster, grind finer; if it stalls, coarsen slightly.

Yield
About 285–300 g in the cup. Enjoy at 130–150 °F for peak flavor.

What to expect in the cup

  • Light roasts from Trinity should show citrus, florals, stone fruit, honeyed sweetness, and a tea-like finish.

  • This method balances clarity with rounded body that beginners find easy to dial in.

Quick troubleshooting

  • Sour, thin: Grind a bit finer, keep water near 203 °F, extend immersion by 10–15 seconds.

  • Bitter, dry: Grind a bit coarser, lower temp to 198–200 °F, reduce agitation.

  • Channeling or uneven bed: Pour slower and swirl after bloom.

  • Stalled drawdown: Coarsen grind or reduce fines.

Optional variants to test

  • Faster, brighter cup: Same ratio. Use 40–45 g bloom, pour to 320 g by 1:45, minimal agitation, total time 2:30–2:50.

  • Sweeter, rounder cup: Keep the immersion until 2:00, then finish the pour. Total 3:10–3:30.

  • Iced V60: Brew 1:12 hot over ice for a bright flash-brew. Bloom as above, then pour hot water equal to final yield minus ice.
